I think Dr. Siegal was onto something when he offered cookies to assist people with their weight loss.  If I were being honest, I would say it appealed to me.  I’m weak for cookies!  However it appears Dr. Siegal has expanded his product line to also include shakes, supplements and tea.  The shakes are designed to replace 2 cookies when using them instead of a meal.  The cookies and the shakes both contain an amino acid blend meant to curb appetite.  There are other ingredients that make the shakes taste good too.  There is chocolate, Crème Brule, strawberry, vanilla, and Pina Colada.

• Non fat dry milk is the first ingredient.  These are actually dry pouches designed to mix with water.  Non Fat dry milk is great for people trying to lose weight.  There is no saturated fat. It’s a great source of protein.  Milk is also known to promote growth and support lean muscle development, if you get yourself into the gym.
• Maltodextrin- This ingredient is a sweetener and may impact blood sugar in the same way sugar does.  To have this in a weight loss product may hinder weight loss efforts.  Any sugars that raise insulin will contribute to fat storage. 
• Corn syrup solids- Corn syrup is used as a thickener, but it’s impact on blood sugar should be enough to keep people away from this sweetener.  Unlike other sweeteners like honey, it has no nutritional value.
• Egg White Solids- Now this ingredient I like.  When Dr. Siegal says they use amino acids to help curb appetite, I couldn’t agree more.  Egg whites are a great source of amino acids and high in protein.  This is a great addition to the Pina Colada Shake.
• Beef Protein Hydrolysate- This method of hydrolyzing protein produces a mixture of amino acids that are easier to absorb.  This ingredient may be the key to helping people lose weight by curbing appetite. 
• Sodium Caseinate Milk   - Casein forms a gel like substance in the gut, which in turn allows slow absorption of the amino acids. This slow release of amino acids helps people to feel full longer, and allows people to use the amino acids more efficiently. Releasing the amino acids too quickly, leads to some being flushed out.
• The rest of the ingredients look like chemical stabilizers and flavors.

PRO’s

• This product is more than a meal replacement with vitamins.  It has 12 grams of protein for only 130 calories. It has ingredients that help curb appetite, as well as fill you up.
• There is only 1 gram of fat.
• This shake only has 19 grams of carbs.
• The flavor sounds delicious!

CON’s

• If you are lactose intolerant or have milk allergies, you cannot use this shake.
• They are so low in calories, you may need to eat more at other meals to make up for it.

Conclusion

Dr. Siegals weight loss shake has a few ingredients that I believe would help a person to lose weight.  With the extra protein, and the amino acid mixtures, a person would be satisfied with fewer calories and hopefully suppress appetite for later.  On the other hand, this shake is $2.85 per shake, which seems like a lot, but it is less than buying a good piece of steak.
